Description: This collection of photos was saved by Patricia, and include a few of her husband Oscar, as a boy. Patricia was a teacher for many years in Ellsworth and Tremont. She also saved and compiled notebooks of news clippings and copies of photos that we have at the museum.
Description: Lila Sawyer donated two old photo albums to the Historical Society through Chuck Liebow in 2017. These photos seem to have been collected by her cousin Harvey Melvin Sawyer and his wife, Charlotte Turner Sawyer. Charlotte's family lived in Sullivan, Maine and operated a large nursing home there for many years where the school administration building is now located on Rt. 1. Lila's grandfather and Harvey's grandfather were brothers. There are many old unidentified photos, as well as duplicates, photos of unknown people or places, and uncatalogued photos included in the collection. [show more]
Description: Collection of photographs given by Lewis Hopkins' wife, Onalee Warren Hopkins. She and Lewis raised several children and lived near the McKinley Cemetery in Bass Harbor. They also operated a small store and ice cream stand there for several years. The collection consists mostly of photos of family and friends.
Description: This collection of black and white photographs (and one tintype) was given to us by Mary Ann Hale, who purchased her Bass Harbor house at 224 Harbor Drive in 1994 from Doris M. Bridgham (probably Doris Torrey). Mary Ann found the photos in the house. The home was owned formerly by Maynard Torrey, father of Doris and Dorian. Maynard Torrey inherited the property from his father, Samuel S. Torrey, originally from Swan's Island. Maynard's sister, Fannie Etta Torrey married Allen Leslie Black, and they lived in the next house, and raised their family there. These photos are from both families. [show more]
